Since I have been asked a number of questions in connection with Ketoconazole, this post is dedicated to the active ingredient in NIZORAL, which is Ketoconazole.

Ketoconazole has proved itself to be an ingredient that is against DHT on the scalp.  In addition it appears that it also has a positive effect in the encouragement of hair growth.

One of the theories in how Ketoconazole acts is that it reduces the amount of SEUBEM  that adheres to the roots of the hair folicles and causes suffocation of the hair until it stops growing and falls out.

An alternative concept is that Ketoconazole,  a synthetic anti fungal drug, is acting to prevent and treat fungal skin infections of the scalp. Thus it is effective for people who are suffering from an itchy scalp and redness.

Studies

In March 2001 the American Academy of Dermatology in Washington, DC, scientists conducted a study where 100 participants used a shampoo two to three times a week consisting of 1% Ketoconazole and another control group used a placebo shampoo.

Those who used the Ketoconazole the diameter of their hair thickened by 8.46%. In addition, the amount of SEUBEM was reduced by 6.54%. The amount of hair falling out on a daily basis was reduced by 16.4%.

Finally when there was additional hair growth, this growth was increased by 6.4%. These results stand in contrast to the group who used the placebo shampoo. They had no positive results during the course of the study.

In a previous study the scientists employed Ketoconazole at a concentration of 2%. The results they achieved were similar to the use of Ketoconazole .

Conclusion

I decided to use a shampoo that includes 1% Ketoconazole REVITA  SHAMPOO  not NIZORAL SHAMPOO. This is because with REVITA SHAMPOO I can wash my hair on a daily basis. Whereas with NIZORAL SHAMPOO, because of its higher concentration of Ketoconazole ; it is recommended not to use it more than once a week.
